Scientific Program Series (SPS)DescriptionIn an effort to provide continuing education for psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically informed mental health professionals; to inspire and encourage interest in psychoanalysis in the surrounding academic community; and to inform the public about the latest advances in psychoanalysis, the APS sponsors an ongoing Scientific Program Series each academic year. Formatted as evening dinner meetings, these programs feature local, national and international speakers who present preferably unpublished papers or other original material on topics in the field of psychoanalysis, frequently covering areas on the cutting edge of modern psychoanalytic theory and technique. Location, Dates and TimesUnless otherwise specified, APS Scientific Programs are held at the Petit Auberge Restaurant, 2935 North Druid Hills Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329-3909, located in the Toco Hills Shopping Center (Directions). Individuals may come for the presentation only at no cost, or for dinner and the presentation at a cost of $35 per person. The Scientific Program meetings are usually held on selected Friday evenings (with occasional Wednesday evening meetings) between September and May of each academic year, beginning with Wine and Conversation at 6:30 p.m., Dinner at 7:00 p.m., and the Presentation at 8:00 p.m. Presentations usually last an hour with an additional 30 minutes of discussion following the presentation. The meetings are open to any individuals who have an interest in psychoanalysis. Please see the Calendar for the programs this year. Individuals who plan to have dinner should notify Eileen Piasecki at least 5 days in advance and should bring a check to the meeting payable to the Atlanta Psychoanalytic Society. Advance notice of each Scientific Program meeting with a description of the speaker and the presentation is sent out to all members of the Society and to interested individuals through our email listserv atl-psych@googlegroups.com.
