Membership Categories and Application Information

Charter Members (Ch): Individuals who have been members of the Society since its inception as an Affiliate of the American Psychoanalytic Association in May of 1973.

Active Members (A): Individuals who are graduates of an Institute of training in Psychoanalysis approved by the American Psychoanalytic Association or the International Psychoanalytical Association and who satisfy requirements of good character, ethical practice and professional fitness.  Active Members may vote and hold office in the Society.
Annual Dues: $250.00

Candidate Members (C): Individuals who are currently in training in an Institute of Training in Psychoanalysis approved by the American Psychoanalytic Association or the International Psychoanalytical Association. Candidate Members may vote and hold office in the Society.
Annual Dues: None

Scientific Affiliate Members (SA): Psychoanalysts who are not Active Members of or eligible for membership in the American Psychoanalytic Association or the International Psychoanalytical Association, or academic professionals from other disciplines who have an interest in psychoanalytic principles. May not vote or hold office in the Society.
Annual Dues: $125.00

Psychotherapy Members (P): Non-psychoanalyst licensed mental health professionals who have a dedicated interest in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy. May not hold office or vote in the Society.
Annual Dues: $125.00

Corresponding Members (Cor): APS Members who have moved away or belong to another Affiliate Society and would like to continue or assume membership in the APS. May not hold office or vote in the Society.
Annual Dues: $25.00

Life Members (L): Eligible to any individual who has been a member in good standing of this or any other APsaA-affiliated or International Psychoanalytical Association-affiliated Society for 25 years and has attained the age of 70.
Annual Dues: None

Honorary Members (H): Any individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of psychoanalysis. Active Members elected to Honorary membership may retain Active Membership.
Annual Dues: None
