Friday night movies hosted by the charming Charles Zapf, M.D., followed by discussions and psychoanalytic perspectives

In conjunction with the Institute, the Psychoanalytic Studies Program and the Atlanta Foundation for Psychoanalysis, films are presented on the Emory campus. An analyst or analytic candidate provides a psychoanalytic discussion of the film.

Movie Mania is presented by the Emory University Psychoanalytic Institute, the Atlanta Foundation for Psychoanalysis, Inc. and the Emory University Psychoanalytic Studies Program. Movies are shown on Friday nights, starting at 7:30pm in White Hall, Room 205 on the Emory Campus. There is no admission charge and no reservations are required. This film, based on Pat Barker's novel, is about soldiers of WW I, who are sent to an asylum for emotional wounds. Their treatment mirrors the transition of Britain into the 20th century with all the baggage of imperial pretensions and prejudices.

The small town of Northfork is being evacuated to make way for a hydro-electric dam. In an orphanage is Father Harlan who gently tends to Irwin, an eight year old who lies between a dreamstate and death.

A typical American boy learns to play competitive chess; his natural talent attracts a variety of mentors and leads to the challenges of moving into national competition.

March 7, 2008: The Trial

Based on Franz Kafka's novel, Joseph K. awakens one morning to find two men in his room telling him he has been arrested. He isn't informed what he is charged with, and remains free and able to go to work.

The lives of four people in Paris are followed and eventually converge, as each tries to reconcile their own happiness and wealth.
